Samsung SGH-I187 Windows Phone for AT&T revealed in FCC Filing

A new FCC filing has revealed a new Samsung device which operates on AT&T"s 4G LTE bands. Unfortunately, Samsung attached a confidentiality request dated on Aug. 26 that requires the FCC to keep photos and the user manual private for 180 days. However, it seems the device is ready to be announced, as it was tested from July 29 to Aug. 20.

We do know from the FCC filing that the device has a removable battery and curved edges, similar to Samsung"s previous designs. We previously reported on the benchmark results showing this device running Windows Phone 8, and sporting a 720P display; powered by a dual-core Snapdragon 400 this phone appears to be a mid-range successor to the Samsung ATIV S.

However, it is nice to see Samsung making a Windows Phone among Nokia"s dominance. It was just today when a Huawei executive confirmed its commitment to Windows Phone, despite Microsoft"s recent plans to buy Nokia"s smartphone business.

Samsung"s support for Windows Phone in the past has been questionable, as some people claim that they are too focused on Android; that"s not an entirely inaccurate claim, as they are dominating in the Android world. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what Samsung will bring to the table, and if it"s enough to compete with the likes of the Lumia 925 and HTC"s next Windows Phone.
