Samsung shipped more than 6.7 million 5G smartphones last year

Samsung made inroads into the mobile 5G space in February of last year with the unveiling of the Galaxy S10 5G at its Unpacked event. Since then, the South Korean tech giant went on to release more 5G phone models over the course of 2019.

Today, Samsung announced that its 5G smartphone shipments worldwide capped more than 6.7 million last year. Making up its portfolio of 5G devices are, of course, the Galaxy S10 5G, Note10 5G and Note10+ 5G, Galaxy A90 5G, and the Galaxy Fold 5G.

Regarding its latest milestone, TM Roh, President and Head of Research and Development at IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, said:

“Consumers can’t wait to experience 5G and we are proud to offer a diverse portfolio of devices that deliver the best 5G experience possible. For Samsung, 2020 will be the year of Galaxy 5G and we are excited to bring 5G to even more device categories and introduce people to mobile experiences they never thought possible.”

After introducing the Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note10+ 5G in August 2019 along with its LTE version. One month later, the company launched the Galaxy A90 5G, the first device in the mid-tier range to come with the latest-generation wireless technology for mobile networks. Additionally, Samsung revealed that it will release the Galaxy Tab S6 5G in Korea in the first quarter of 2020. The firm says that it will represent the world’s first 5G tablet.

According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung commands 53.9% of the 5G smartphone market worldwide as of November 2019. The company says it spent almost a decade of research on 5G before finally bringing the technology to the world.
