Today, Amazon and Samsung announced that Prime Video subscribers will be able to watch content in HDR10+ on Samsung"s 2017 UHD TV devices, which includes the QLED models. The companies say that it"s the first time that a streaming service has implemented the standard.
You should be able to stream Amazon originals in HDR10+, which include The Man in the High Castle, The Tick, The Grand Tour, and more. The firms say that it will also work with hundreds of other licensed titles.
"We"re dedicated to offering Prime Video members the best possible viewing experience, and we are very excited for our members around the world to experience our content in HDR10+," said Greg Hart, Vice President of Prime Video. "The viewing experience of HDR10+ combined with Prime Video’s award-winning content is ushering in a new era of entertainment for consumers on these devices."
HDR10+ is a standard that uses dynamic metadata to create enhanced contrast and colors on the content that you"re watching. HDR10, on the other hand, uses static metadata that doesn"t change during playback, which can result in the quality not being optimal during some scenes. Using Dynamic Tone Mapping with HDR10+, this can be adjusted during playback.
Amazon and Samsung first announced the new standard back in April, along with their plans to bring it to Prime Video on Samsung TVs. Unfortunately, at the current time, it still won"t work on any other brands of television that you might have.
