In preparation for CES 2022, which starts on Wednesday, Samsung has unveiled several new monitors including the latest Odyssey display. There’s the Odyssey Neo G8, Smart Monitor M8, and the High Resolution Monitor S8. The latter model, the High Resolution Monitor S8, is available in two sizes, 27” and 32”, so that’s four new monitor models in all.
Commenting on the new line of products, Hyesung Ha, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said:
“Samsung’s 2022 lineup represents the next generation in monitor innovation with offerings that meet the demands of competitive gamers, professional designers and everyone in between. As the work and entertainment worlds continue to evolve, we are proud to deliver monitors that boost users’ experiences from the comfort of their homes.”
Odyssey Neo G8
The Odyssey Neo G8 is a 32” 1000R curved display with 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160) that has a 240 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms response time making it ideal for gaming. To make the picture pop, Samsung has used Quantum Mini LEDs that support a 2,000 nit peak brightness and a 1,000,000:1 static contract ratio which better highlights the small details “for increased world building and immersion”.
The monitor sports a white exterior to make it more noticeable in your gaming den and includes CoreSync lighting which projects colours from the back of the monitor to reflect the colours currently being shown on the screen. The Korean firm hopes that lighting up your room in the same colours will make for a more immersive experience.
Smart Monitor M8
Next up, we’ve got the Smart Monitor M8. This is also a 32” display but rather than using a curved design, it emphasises space efficiency with an ultra-slim thickness of 11.4 mm. Similar to the Odyssey Neo G8, the Smart Monitor M8 is white but is described as warm – using this colour, Samsung hopes that the monitor can fit into any environment. The display features 99% sRGB colour gamut with support for 1.07 billion colours at 400 nit brightness.
While you can use this monitor with a computer, it does come with built-in Smart TV and productivity apps too. Additionally, it features a movable magnetic SlimFit Cam which can be used with popular VoIP services that are built into the Video Call app that comes with the Smart Monitor M8.
High Resolution Monitor S8
Finally, we have the Samsung High Resolution Monitor S8 which will be available in 27” and 32” models. Samsung said that these monitors are aimed at creators and designers who need high levels of accuracy for their work. If you sit in a room with open curtains, this monitor will be good for you because it’s the world’s first Underwriter Laboratories-verified Glare Free monitor with its Matte Display on the top panel of the display.
This monitor features 90W charging for your laptops and mobile devices and it includes a Height Adjustable Stand that can tilt, swivel, and pivot so users can set it up to suit their environment.
Unfortunately, Samsung did not provide pricing or availability details for these products so hopefully, we will hear more at CES.
