Samsung will stop giving away points for using Bixby

Samsung"s Bixby was announced a couple years ago alongside the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Despite a grand launch, the service wasn"t all that fleshed out and left a bad taste in people"s mouths. The firm even used Bixby Level and Experience Points to try and get things rolling in a more positive way. It looks like the fun of earning free Samsung Pay points is now over, as the company has announced that it will stop the program on August 10.

It is unclear just how many users opted to play Samsung"s game and earn points for making use of Bixby, but clearly, the company is ready to drop the program, and just have users discover the digital assistant in a more natural way. After the August 10 date, users will no longer be able to earn points but they can continue to use backgrounds that were previously unlocked.

On the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, Samsung made Bixby an integrated part of the experience, having it pop up in unexpected areas like the camera app. While it might be useful to some, those that choose to not use it could also disable the feature. Sadly, the physical hardware button used to call Bixby cannot be remapped and only disabled.

Samsung has more recently announced a new Unpacked event for August, more than likely to unveil the Galaxy Note9.
