Samsung's T7 Shield Portable SSD can withstand drops, water, and dust

Samsung announced a new addition to its lineup of portable solid-state drives. The T7 Shield Portable SSD does not set a world record in terms of storage capacity, but it can boast some serious protection against hostile environments.

The company says the T7 Shield is a perfect option for creative professionals and consumers who need a durable SSD with high performance. The drive is IP65-rated, which means it can withstand drops from up to three meters and ensure your data is intact after contact with dust or water. Despite heavy protection, the T7 Shield remains relatively compact and lightweight (98 grams).

The T7 Shield will be available in two storage configurations and three color variants. Users can pick between 1TB and 2TB capacity, and color options include blue, white, and black. Performance-wise, Samsung claims the SSD can provide up to 1,050MB/s read and 1,000MB/s write speeds, approximately two times faster than the drive"s predecessor, the T5.

You can use the T7 Shield with multiple devices using a USB-C port. According to the spec sheet, the drive supports Windows 7, macOS 10.10, and Android 5.0 or higher.
