Samsung"s previous implementation of "Bright Night" for low-light smartphone photography was slightly less intuitive compared to some of its competition as it didn"t provide users with full control of the camera feature. Unlike the Google Pixel family"s "Night Sight" and the Huawei P30 series" Night mode, Bright Night relies on when the Galaxy S10 deems it necessary to shoot in long exposure, which only occurs during extremely low light conditions.
Fortunately, Samsung has finally introduced a dedicated camera night mode for its latest flagship devices, and it"s now available to everyone, giving them full control over when to use the feature. That means they won"t have to depend anymore on the camera"s scene optimizer for the night mode to work.
The feature was initially rolled out to Galaxy S10 users in Switzerland as part of Samsung"s software update for April. While the camera night mode receives its dedicated spot on the phone"s camera, it"s not expected to bring that much of an improvement when compared to Bright Night since it"s only a spinout of the latter, as SamMobile noted.
That said, the dedicated camera night mode is available to download by heading over to the "Software update" menu in the Settings app and then tapping the download button. The update comes in at 205.18MB and it includes the April 2019 Android security patch.
