When Samsung announced its Galaxy S8 and S8+, the firm also revealed its plans to launch its new digital assistant Bixby. While it would launch in Korea and the US, it was without the heavily touted Voice function.
After months of the Voice feature not coming to fruition for those located in the United States, Galaxy S8 users were thrown a bit of bone when Samsung announced its sneak preview program. Although the wait was certainly long, it now appears that the firm will release the feature on July 18.
This news comes from a post on Reddit that shows off what looks to be an image of internal company memo noting the launch, its date, and also the need for those in the loop to take a webinar training. If the launch does occur and the information in the image is accurate, it will certainly allow users to make better use of the dedicated hardware button that was solely assigned to be used with Bixby.
This hardware button has been a contention point between users and Samsung, as many feel that locking it to Bixby is a foul move. While developers were able to free the button for customization, Samsung struck back quickly, issuing an update that once again disabled users ability to manipulate it. Luckily, for now, the button remains customizable through multiple third-party apps, but hopefully, users will find a bit more use from it once Bixby Voice launches in its official form.
