Today, Samsung announced that it"s bringing the Galaxy S8 Active to T-Mobile and Sprint this month, as was previously rumored. The handset was launched as a limited time exclusive to AT&T in August.
A ruggedized variant of the company"s Galaxy S8 phone, Samsung promises "military-grade durability", with the handset being shock-, shatter-, dust-, and water-resistant. The battery is larger as well, at 4,000mAh. Other than that, the specs are pretty much the same as the flagship phone that was released earlier this year.
It"s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, which offers cellular data speeds of up to 1Gbps, and the shatter-proof screen is a 5.8-inch QHD AMOLED display. The rear and front cameras both have f/1.7 apertures, with the resolution coming in at 12MP and 8MP, respectively.
Coming later this month, the device will be available in Meteor Gray. Pricing has yet to be confirmed on Sprint, but T-Mobile will be selling it for $820, or there are installment plans where customers can put $100 down and pay $30 per month. Update: T-Mobile has confirmed to Neowin that the Galaxy S8 Active will use its 600MHz spectrum, which should allow for better coverage within buildings.
