In 2017, water and dust resistance has become a more common and expected feature on higher-end smartphones. Although Samsung has been making water- and dust-resistant smartphones for quite some time, in its early stages, it required the firm to release an entirely different line of smartphones known as the "active". The active line has generally offered nearly the same specifications as the Galaxy handset released for that year but added a rugged exterior shell, water and dust resistance, and other improvements.
If none of the above sounds familiar to you, don"t worry, you aren"t alone. The active series isn"t a common release and has typically been an AT&T exclusive. With the imminent release of the Galaxy S8 and S8+, it comes as no surprise that Samsung is prepping an active model for this generation of the phone.
According to the folks at SamMobile, they have uncovered details that a Galaxy S8 active is being developed under the codename "Cruiser" with model number SM-G892A. As far as protection is concerned, one can only assume that the Galaxy S8"s IP68 certification will remain on the handset, but it will most likely arrive with a beefier shell that will protect it from drops. If the new device follows the path of its predecessors, there is the possibility that it could arrive with a larger battery capacity and maybe even a new camouflage color scheme
Luckily, we won"t have to wait long, as the active has typically been released in June, which is only a couple months away.
