For the past few years, Samsung has produced a special rugged edition of its Galaxy S handset that has been exclusive to the United States and always managed to land on wireless carrier AT&T. Although the regular Galaxy S tends to arrive in the second quarter of the year, the rugged Galaxy S active line usually appears around mid-summer. While we have yet to receive confirmation as to when it will be launched, a new leak suggests that it could be coming soon.
The image above was spotted on online retailer Amazon"s website, giving us a look at the screen protector and a render of the alleged Galaxy S8 active. More importantly is the date that is attached to the product, showing off an estimated "in stock" date of August 1. While this doesn"t necessarily indicate when the S8 active will come to market, it could be used to speculate an arrival period.
If unfamiliar with the handset, the S8 active is rumored to arrive with a 5.8-inch AMOLED display that is completely flat. This is in contrast to what is offered on the standard Galaxy S8 with the change most likely made in order to fortify the chassis against drops and impacts. Like past handsets, the unit is expected to be resistant to drops, dust, and water - complying with the MIL-STD-810G standard.
