A couple of months ago, we reported about Samsung"s preparation towards launching its first circular smartwatch. Soon after, it was revealed that the device will feature a rotatable bezel, which can be used not only to navigate the screen, but also to zoom in on photos, and go around menus.
Now, more information about the said wearable has been revealed, as part of the smartwatch"s SDK availability for developers. According to a report by Sammobile, the Gear A (currently dubbed as "Project Orbis") will feature a 1.65-inch Super AMOLED display which has a screen resolution of 360 x 360. The insides are powered with an Exynos 3472 dual-core processor, which is clocked at 1.2 GHz, as well as a Mali-400 MP4 GPU, clocked at 450 MHz. 768 MB of RAM is on board, 4 GB of internal storage, and a 250 mAh battery. Sensors for the smartwatch include a GPS, a fitness tracker, heart rate monitor, gyro sensor, accelerometer, magnetic sensor, and a barometer.
Furthermore, it is speculated that the Gear A will be available in two variants: one that relies on a Bluetooth connection, and the other with a 3G and calling support, yet both will have Wi-Fi support. As we have reported before, no signs of a camera were seen on the leaked specifications. Together with the bezel ring, the wearable will also reportedly feature a digital crown, which also helps in screen navigation.
In line with previous announcements, the Gear A is expected to be launched at this year"s IFA event by September, apace with the Galaxy Note 5, though this newest Note device from Samsung might get an earlier release than expected.
