Samsung's new flagship Ultrabook: the ATIV Book 9 Plus

Eyeing off the 3800 x 1800 display in the ATIV Q but don"t want to deal with that particular form factor? Perhaps Samsung"s freshly announced ATIV Book 9 Plus will be more to your liking. The new flagship Windows 8 Ultrabook features some pretty high-end features for a device like this, including the aforementioned 3800 x 1800 275 PPI display, Gorilla Glass coating, a selection of Intel"s latest Haswell Core i5 or Core i7 processors, OCR bonding for an excellent touchscreen experience and two hinge positions that allow the screen to fold all the way down to 180 degrees.

It may not be the lightest 13-inch Ultrabook going around, at 1.39 kg, but it will feature up to 12 hours of battery life according to Samsung. The Ultrabook will be launching at some point in Q3 of this year, but no pricing information was announced.

As well as the flagship ATIV Book 9 Plus, Samsung also announced a lower-end ATIV Book 9 Lite, which ditches the high resolution display for a standard 1366 x 768 display, and features one of AMD"s new Kabini APUs under the hood. The machine does have a 256 GB solid state drive in its 1.44-1.58 kg body, but it"s not surprising to learn the battery life is lower than its flagship counterpart: apparently you"ll only be able to manage a maximum of eight hours out of this device. As with the ATIV Book 9 Plus, the Book 9 Lite is slated for a Q3 release with no price announced just yet.
