Although PAX East isn"t due to start for another two days, that doesn"t mean game-related news can"t trickle down before the event kicks off. One such bit of news comes a bit out of left field, as Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time has been unveiled via the trailer above.
For those not familiar with it, Samurai Jack originally aired for four seasons on Cartoon Network, between 2001 and 2004. It was created by Genndy Tartakovsky, who was also behind Dexter"s Laboratory, Star Wars: Clone Wars, as well as having contributions to shows like 2 Stupid Dogs, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Batman: The Animated Series.
Samurai Jack was brought back in 2017 for its fifth and final season, which aired on Adult Swim. The 10-episode season was directed by Tartakovsky and had Darrick Bachman as its lead writer. Bachman will also be the writer for this game adaptation.
The description for the upcoming title reads as follows:
Become Samurai Jack, the greatest warrior of the past, present and future. Journey through time to finally stop Aku’s evil reign in this new adventure told by the creators of Samurai Jack. Encounter your favorite characters from the show including The Scotsman, Scaramouche, Sir Rothchild, and more!
An untold Samurai Jack adventure that ties into the epic series finale. Team up with trusted allies from the show to face off against familiar enemies. Visit classic worlds and moments from your favorite episodes. Travel to a dark future to free mankind. Dive into the past to face off against terrifying monsters. Seek your fate as you travel across space and time. Equip and master over a dozen different weapons in combat. Increase your power even more by training and unlocking new skills to support your playstyle.
Though gameplay footage is currently in short supply, what is known is that this will be a 3D hack-and-slash title, developed by Japanese studio Soleil. Among the staff are developers who worked on the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden series, as well as NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER, Devil"s Third, and Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes.
Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time is set to release this summer for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. No pricing or specific date is known currently, though it"s possible more will be revealed during PAX East.
