SanDisk premiere 512GB SD card with 4K support

SanDisk have been working hard to produce performance-driven storage hardware in recent months.  In a new press release issued directly by SanDisk, the company unveiled a new SDXC unit that is capable of storing 512GB of data on a single card.  That kind of storage is impressive given the size of a standard SD card.  However, SanDisk also revealed that the new SD card, named the SanDisk Extreme PRO® SDXC™ UHS-I Memory Card, is also capable of supporting both 1080p and 4K video capture.  The capture of both HD formats is made possible through a data capture rate of 90MB/s, allowing plenty of room for both great video and audio to be stored to the card live.  The card also boasts a 95MB/s transfer rate when using the device in conjunction with a laptop or PC for editing and backup purposes and is a good fit for professionals that would like to store data-intensive 4K content locally on a video capture device.

"Our Pocket Cinema Camera customers shoot in every type of circumstance and location, and get amazing wide dynamic range RAW images capturing the brightest highlights and darkest shadows at the same time. The additional capacity of the SanDisk Extreme PRO UHS-I card will extend the creative freedom for our customers shooting in RAW and open up the ability to use wide dynamic range RAW files with even more productions.”

-Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design

SanDisk state that the card has been tested against temperature, water, shock, and x-ray environments and is capable of withstanding those encounters, making it not only a fast mini storage device but also a durable one.  Should you want to pick up a new 512GB Extreme PRO SDXC it will set you back $800.  That may sound a bit steep at first, but you are paying for 1/2 of a terabyte of data on a chip that"s the size of a half dollar.  The good news is, as long as you don"t lose the SD card, SanDisk offers a lifetime warranty for the device against product defects.
