Say hello to the next Samsung Galaxy handset, the Grand

With CES fast approaching, rumours of the Samsung Galaxy S IV being revealed and a reshape of the Samsung brand are rife. But what can we really expect to see at the show that starts on January 8th? We can be pretty sure this next one will be on show, the latest in a long line of Galaxy branded smartphones, the Galaxy Grand.

So what do we know about the phone? Well for a start, Samsung say this is “an ideal smartphone for users with fast-paced mobile lifestyles who demand more from their phone.” But can it deliver? Well, let’s look at the specs and decide.

  • 1.2GHz Dual Core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB storage + microSD slot (up to 64GB)
  • Android 4.1.2 (Jellybean)
  • 8MP rear camera, 2MP front facing camera
  • WiFi, WiFi HT40, Bluetooth 4.0 + LE, DLNA, A-GPS Glonass
  • 2100mAh battery
  • 76.9mm x 143.5mm x 9.6mm, weight 162g

Depending on your region, it’s not too far off the spec of the Galaxy S III, so what makes it Grand? The 5.0” screen and the Dual SIM version might go a long way to helping. It will be possible to take calls on both SIMs simultaneously, which according to Samsung will ensure “efficient management of personal and work commitments without ever missing a call.

Features such as Direct Call, Smart Alert, Popup Video, S Voice and AllShare Play are all included out of the box. Samsung Hubs is preloaded for immediate access to the most popular games and media content direct to the user on demand.

So where will the Grand fit into Samsung’s master plan? It’s likely that the Galaxy S range will be update, providing a premium handset at a premium cost and the Grand be the device to give Galaxy like features and specs on a budget.

There has been no word on pricing or availability, but we’re sure things will become clear before or during CES.
