Screen resolution options spotted in leaked image of Samsung Galaxy S8

While the ability to change the screen resolution on the Samsung Galaxy S7 has been made available in the latest update to Nougat, now rolling out to Canadian carriers after the update started rolling out on Sprint and T-Mobile back in February, it appears that we"ve caught a glimpse of the same ability on the forthcoming Galaxy S8.

The interface to change screen resolution provides a simple slider offering the choice of three resolutions, specifically:

  • HD+ @ 1480 x 720px
  • FHD+ @ 2220 x 1080px
  • WQHD+ @ 2960 x 1440px

At this stage, one could presume that the "out of the box" screen resolution for the device would match the display"s native resolution rather than defaulting to the intermediate option as per what occurred after some Galaxy S7 and S7 edge devices were updated to Android 7.0 Nougat. However, those looking to squeeze more running time out of their devices may be prepared to pare back on the pixel processing to help minimize power consumption, particularly when running low on charge.

However, if the leaked image is to be believed, it does back up earlier reports that the Galaxy S8"s screen would possess an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, which is slightly taller in comparison to the 18:9 aspect display ratio found in the LG G6, with the extra vertical resolution likely accommodating the onscreen navigation controls.
