Screenshot of new Google News design; testers hate it

Google launched a re-design of Google News back in May of 2009. About a week ago, there was some "buzz" (get it?) about another refresh coming to the service. Up until now, no one has posted any screenshots of the new look. Today, however, the Search Engine Roundtable got their hands on one. It was originally posted in the Google News Help forum.

Over in the forum, it doesn"t look like too many people are happy with the new design. Some users have even threatened to leave Google News if the new design takes effect. Below there are screenshots comparing the current design to the new one. Here"s what testers have to say about it:

"Horrible, if it doesn"t revert to something similar as before will leave to another news source."

"The new layout just gives me lots of junk stories. I want MY sections, not yours. Change it back to the way it was. Better yet, get rid of your Top Stories. I want only MY stories."

"Please advise on how to change the layout back the way it was. I hate this new layout."

"I have to agree with everyone else.  The new design is terrible.  It"s just a hodge podge of articles, like someone had a pile and threw them down the stairs.  It"s cumbersome and unusable - something you would have expected to see on the internet 10 years ago.  I"ll keep coming back to see if it changes to the previous format but I"m using Yahoo News now - something I never thought I"d do."
