Apples iOS products can get their apps from either the App Store or from iTunes, and now it looks like Microsoft is taking the same approach with Windows Phone 7. Although theres currently no source listed, WMPoweruser.com has posted some screenshots showing off the Zune-based app purchasing experience. Whilst the article is short, it also states that after purchasing an app through the the Zune marketplace on your PC, you can have it installed over-the-air to your device. Users can also read and write reviews of applications via Zune.
The Windows Phone 7 app marketplace on Zune
Currently, the marketplace isn’t populated with anything other than the bare essentials. That is expected to change drastically upon the release of Windows Phone 7 with Microsoft actively seeking out developers to join the Windows Phone development community – even going as far as enticing them with cash rewards and free handsets.
Despite this, questions still remain about the Zune marketplace. At this time we have no concrete word on the launch of Zune music services outside of North America (although we believe that the Zune subscription music service is coming to the UK) and Zune video services are still exclusive to Xbox in most regions. We don"t have to wait long to find out the answers to those questions, as Windows Phone 7 is now expected to launch within the next two-three months.
