Only a week has passed since the Microsoft platform exclusive pirate-themed adventure game, Sea of Thieves, made its debut on Xbox One and Windows 10, and the game has already gone past the two million player mark across the two platforms.
Although we do not know how players from this massive number are actual owners and how many are Xbox Game Pass subscribers, Rare studio head Craig Duncan revealed today on Xbox Wire that Sea of Thieves has become Microsoft"s "fastest-selling first-party new IP of this generation," as well as the "best-selling Microsoft Studios first-party title on Windows 10." The game also took the top spot in the UK"s retail game sales last week, beating A Way Out and Ni No Kuni II.
The game"s first update landed yesterday, with Rare pushing a number of bug fixes related to delayed rewards and achievements, some Xbox One X performance improvements, and more.
In Neowin"s joint-review of the game, which can be read here, we were impressed with Sea of Thieves" immersion and multiplayer aspects, but were disappointed with the asking price.
Sea of Thieves is available via the Microsoft Store for the Xbox One family of consoles and Windows 10 PCs as an Xbox Play Anywhere title with a $59.99 price tag. It is also a part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription program, which comes in at $9.99/mo.
