Crossovers aren"t something new for Sea of Thieves. Just recently Rare did a massive collaboration with Disney to bring a Pirates of the Caribbean storyline and new content over to its adventure game, and previously, it has brought cosmetics celebrating other Xbox Game Studios franchises. The latest crossover is one like the latter, but from an outside source, Gearbox"s Borderlands to be specific.
The studio is giving everyone a chance to grab a set of dashing ship cosmetics, fittingly named the Mayhem set, crafted after the Borderlands franchise. Even Claptrap has made the trip just to be mounted on the ship, but in barrel form. The iconic Vault logo can be seen from every angle in this set, but unlike in the Vaults of Pandora, the treasures found in these will be from players.
To gain access to the set, players can participate in the latest Making Mayhem event of Sea of Thieves, where two types of challenges await pirates: Minor Mayhem and Major Mayhem. The former involves simple tasks like blowing up a shark with gunpowder barrel or hitting skeletons with a firebomb, while the latter has players looting all gold piles in a vault or completing Tall Tales.
Completing these various tasks will steadily earn favor and unlock parts of the Mayhem ship set when the thresholds are met. Interested players can go talk to Larinna at a tavern to get the details. A hub for the event has also been set up on the Sea of Thieves website, giving live updates to crews on their progress towards unlocks as well as lists of available Minor and Major challenges.
Pirates have from now until September 7 to complete challenges and gain the Mayhem ship set. Sea of Thieves recently celebrated its most active month of play, boasting 4.8 million active players just in June thanks to the arrival of Captain Jack Sparrow and his entourage.
