Rare made an appearance at Microsoft"s gamescom conference today, where the developer officially confirmed that cross-platform play between the Xbox One and Windows 10 platforms will be a feature in its upcoming pirate adventure game, Sea of Thieves.
While Sea of Thieves was announced as an Xbox One and Windows 10 title from the get-go, its cross-platform capabilities were not confirmed until now. In the conference, the developer said the cross-play would have "no small print", and would essentially allow players of both platforms to play together seamlessly at launch.
In effect, this implementation would be different to how Gears of War 4 tackled cross-play between Windows 10 and Xbox One, where only a specific playlist allowed the functionality for testing in a post-launch update, and later expanded to include additional options.
While the trailer shown at the event had the same footage we saw at E3 earlier this year, the developer did reveal a new but unconventional weapon that players will have at their disposal, where they will be able to vomit into a bucket and use it against other players to gain the upper hand in combat.
Sea of Thieves is heading for Windows 10 and Xbox One in early 2018, with players of both platforms pirating together in the open seas while throwing buckets of vomit at each other.
