After months of teasing and even a last minute delay, Rare"s newest content update to Sea of Thieves is finally here. Hovering around 5.5GB in size, the Forsaken Shores update carries the third new campaign to the pirate adventure title, following the Hungering Deep and Cursed Sails.
The update opens up a massive new region for pirates to sail towards named The Devil’s Roar. Sporting active volcanoes, earthquakes, geysers, and boiling oceans, this dangerous domain balances the new hazards out with voyages worth much more gold than while in the more calmer areas. One of the most requested features by the community: rowboats, are here as well, along with smaller outposts scattered around the world with NPCs, a new questline, and more.
Row boats, volcanos, and Super. Heated. Water.

Sea of Thieves" most Epic Update yet, Forsaken Shores, has arrived: https://t.co/4BzIKlr4Ch pic.twitter.com/nCMsgZsK5a
However, the new voyage type that will have players ferrying perishable cargo across the seas will only be available starting on week 3 of the Forsaken Shores campaign. This two-week delay is probably due to bugs that popped up in testing, although fans who"ve been looking forward to a change in routine will be disappointed.
The Forsaken Shores page on the official website gives a handy rundown of all the new additions and provides a good look at the new item sets and ship liveries for those interested.
The update"s full changelog hasn"t been made available by Rare just yet, but we will update this post once it is published.
The Sea of Thieves Forsaken Shores campaign is now live, and Xbox One as well as Windows 10 PC players can jump in right to begin their volcanic adventures straight away. Something to keep in mind is that even after the event comes to a close, almost all of the newly implemented features will remain a part of the game. The only pieces of content that"ll be removed are the ability to earn event-exclusive cosmetics and the questline.
Sea of Thieves is available for purchase via the Microsoft Store as an Xbox Play Anywhere title, currently coming in at $38.99. The game is also part of Microsoft"s Xbox Game Pass program, which costs $9.99 per month.
UPDATE: Here are the Sea of Thieves 1.3.0 update"s full release notes.
