Rare"s pirate adventure title Sea of Thieves is something that is best experienced with friends, a major point we focused on in our review of the game almost a year ago. And, to help players add more members to their crew, the studio announced today that for an entire week, Sea of Thieves players will be able to invite their friends over to play without them needing to buy the game.
The Friends Play Free promotion kicks off at 6am PT on February 6 and is slated to run until February 13. Anyone who owns a copy of Sea of Thieves or subscribes to the Xbox Game Pass and has played it through the service, can now reveal three codes on the game"s website.
These codes can be redeemed by players on both Xbox One and Windows 10, letting them jump into the game during the promotion without paying a cent. Do note that Xbox One players will need an active Xbox Live Gold subscription to participate.
Rare will also be introducing the special limited-time Mercenary Voyages type just for the event, offering "an essential mix of quintessential Sea of Thieves activities" with great rewards at the end similar to the Gilded Voyage type that made an appearance last year. Remember to talk to Duke in a tavern to grab a hold of these voyages.
Moreover, if the game is to their liking, those using Friends Play Free codes will be able to pick up Sea of Thieves for 35% off until February 27.
The next Sea of Thieves update that will be drastically reducing the size of the game is landing on the same day, February 6, as well. However, as Rare warned previously, this also means all players will need to download the game from scratch. The studio also teased that there"s some more pirate news on the horizon, with a big announcement planned for March 20, the game"s one year anniversary.
