Sea of Thieves Season Five is live with loot burying, cannon rowboats, and much more

Rare unveiled the fifth season of content heading to its pirate adventure game Sea of Thieves earlier this week, and now, the major update is available across Xbox and PC. Like previous ones, the update carries a major gameplay feature alongside other additions, with this one"s crown jewel being the new treasure burying option for players, allowing for custom voyage creation.

To highlight a few, there are new additions like flares, cannon-equipped rowboats, rats on ships, new shanties, as well as immersive elements such as sitting, sleeping, mouth movements when talking in-game, and various forms of dice to roll as emotes.

Quite a few quality-of-life changes are here too, like easier swapping of resources between barrels and crates, seagulls above floating treasure, skeletons dropping ammo, and much more. Brand new free and paid battle pass paths to progress through as well as new cosmetics to earn and purchase are available too.

Halo-inspired Noble Spartan Sails

Speaking of cosmetics, with Halo Infinite"s campaign so close to launch, Rare is running a special promotion for the Halo-inspired Noble Spartan Sails. Anyone logging into Sea of Thieves before 8 a.m. GMT on December 8 will find the flashy cosmetic in their ship customization inventory for free.

Sea of Thieves Season Five is live with a game update weighing 6.76 GB to 8.29 GB depending on the platform - Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Both owners of the game and Xbox Game Pass subscribers can jump in right now as servers are back from their maintenance period as well. Check out the full changelog of update 2.4.0 here.
