Seagate and Paramount have partnered up to preload 20 Paramount movies on Seagate"s FreeAgent Go drives, according to The Inquirer. Each movie will cost $9.99 - $14.99 to unlock. They will also include Star Trek (2009) which will be free to customers who purchase the drive.
The system will work using licence keys. The user purchases licence keys to unlock films to watch as many times as they like. The Inquirer does note that you need to be running Windows and Internet Explorer with Silverlight installed to view the website correctly. Furthermore you may only download the movie once if you lose it, after that you"re on your own.
Malik Ducard, senior vice-president of Paramount Digital Entertainment stated, "We have teamed up to create what we think is a unique offering that will help jumpstart the creation of digital home movie collections”.
