Sega announces final games coming to its mini console; Japan will get 32x and Sega CD add-ons

From the image above, you can see that Sega is fully committed to its Genesis Mini console, offering plenty of accessories for the unit that should fully invoke feelings of nostalgia for any gamers that grew up in the 90s playing the original. Today, during a special stream through various platforms, the firm showed off the final games that will be included, along with the aforementioned add-on accessories that will be available to purchase separately.

Starting with the add-on pieces, like the 32x, Sega CD, and miniature cartridges, they"re are currently only being advertised for the Japanese market, being sold as a bundle under the "Mega Drive Tower Mini" moniker for 3,980 yen. While a cute throwback to the original experience, these are non-functional pieces and are meant to purely be decorative.

As for games, Sega has been taking it slow. Rather than reveal all of the included games at once, the company has been slowly revealing little by little the title that will be offered. Today, it shared the final 12, giving the mini console a total of 42 games. The latest to be announced include:

  • Alisia Dragoon
  • Columns
  • Darius
  • Dynamite Headdy
  • Eternal Champions
  • Kid Chameleon
  • Light Crusader
  • Monster World IV
  • Road Rash II
  • Strider
  • Tetris
  • Virtua Fighter 2

While Sega seems to be doing a good job of creating hype around the device, the mini console has been a long time coming, with its initial announcement taking place over a year ago. While it was originally set to debut in 2018, the product was delayed, with Sega stating that it wanted to revisit the console"s design and software. Seeing how some other mini consoles turned out, this might have been for the best.

Judging from the video above, the menu looks smooth and there is a lot of attention paid when it comes to the details with regards to the theme music, layout, and cartridge art. You can even switch the menu display to just show the spines, giving you access to all 42 games on one page. While it all looks good on the broadcast, we won"t know how it performs until it is officially released. Luckily, there isn"t too much longer to wait, as it will arrive in a few months time on September 19, priced at $79.99.

If interested, you can pre-order the console in the United States and the UK. from various retailers. Japan does not seem to have a pre-order page, but it does have a games list, and it should be available from various electronics retailers on release day. As for the full list of games, be sure to check the previous pre-order pages for your region, as the titles could be slightly different.
