The highly anticipated third entry in the Shenmue series was unveiled at E3 2015 and subsequently breezed past its $2 million Kickstarter goal, raising over $6.3 million over the course of the campaign.
Now, the developer Ys Net has found Deep Silver as a publisher for handling Shenmue III"s distribution of both physical and digital forms worldwide. Other Deep Silver published games include popular series such as Metro, Saints Row, Dead Island and Homefront, among others.
Shenmue series creator and Ys Net CEO, Yu Suzuki said the following in a statement regarding the new partnership:
“I am very pleased to secure this global partnership with Deep Silver, which is comprised of incredible men and women who have a deep passion for bringing Japanese titles to the rest of the world. Throughout this process, Deep Silver has expressed a deep passion for Japanese games, the Shenmue franchise and its fans—this gives me further confidence in Shenmue III and that we have found the best partner possible.”
The long awaited Shenmue III does not have a concrete release date still but is slated to arrive sometime in the second half of 2018 for PC and PlayStation 4. While the studio announced that the game will not be making an appearance at gamescom this year, Yu Suzuki himself will be present for fans to interact with at the event.
