Sign up for the SimCity beta

Electronic Arts announced Tuesday at Gamescom that SimCity, the long-awaited sequel to Will Wright"s seminal city-building simulation, is now accepting applications for a closed beta on the Windows PC platform. The closed beta will not be available for Mac OS X.

You can sign up for a chance to enter the closed beta at this link. You"ll need an Origin account to register for the beta. The application includes a short survey that asks questions about your gaming habits. You"ll also need to provide a copy of your dxdiag output. If you don"t know how to do this, simply press your Windows Start button and type in "dxdiag" (without quotes) and press Enter. Click "Save All Information" in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool that appears, and save it as a text file. Upload this text file to the SimCity beta application.

Electronic Arts also announced that the Mac OS version of SimCity will be available in February 2013, matching the PC version"s expected release window. There"s still a few months to go until the official release, but some lucky gamers will get an early taste with the closed beta.
