While many jokes have been made about the still limited intelligence of AI"s like Siri, having them do our bidding with a simple voice command can often be a lifesaver, in some cases literally.
Christopher Beaucher, a New Hampshire resident, credited Apple"s digital assistant with saving his life this week in the aftermath of an explosion. Beaucher, who was checking out a vacant cottage owned by his mother over the weekend was unfortunately at the centre of an explosion in the house. The place soon caught fire and part of the structure collapsed.
Luckily, Beaucher was not grievously injured and was able to make it out of the building alive. His hands were, however, severely burned, leaving him unable to call the authorities for help. This is where Siri came in handy, allowing him to call the authorities with a simple voice command.
"I had the presence of mind to use Siri to at least call 911. I was going into shock, too, so having Siri to dial 911 for me was critical."
As a result, help arrived just in time and he was soon rushed to the hospital, where he is now recovering, while the fire department was able to put out the fire at the house.
Readers interested in helping Beaucher out with his recovery and the unfortunate loss of his mother"s cottage can do so by donating at this GoFundMe page.
