SkyDrive adds app-centric sharing for Office, HTML5 upload and more

In a posting on the Windows Live Blog, the team have announced a bumper update to the SkyDrive service that will start to roll out to end-users in the next couple of hours.

Microsoft have also put a video together detailing the updates, which you can view below.

One of the new features is adding more options for sharing files. The new SkyDrive allows people to share items simply by putting in a person"s email address from your address book, including your lists from Facebook, LinkedIn and others. You can also create a URL link to your SkyDrive files that could be set to private viewing only, viewing and editing if you want the person to edit that item or a Public link that let"s everyone check out that file.

HTML5 browsers can now use drag and drop to upload files and photos to SkyDrive and users can also continue to browse the web while those files are being uploaded instead of having to wait until they are completed. SkyDrive also allows browsers with touch features like the iPhone and iPad"s mobile version of Safari to navigate photos in SkyDrive via touch.

There"s also better support for viewing PDF files in SkyDrive via browsers in this update. There are also some performance improvements such as being able to sign into SkyDrive 50 percent faster. You can also instantly create and name new files in SkyDrive along with moving, deleting and downloading multiple files.
