SkyDrive app now available for Windows Phone 8

Microsoft has made its SkyDrive cloud service a huge part of its Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 plans. Today, just a couple of days before AT&T puts the first Windows Phone 8 smartphones on sale in the US, the company has launched a new Windows Phone SkyDrive app. At the moment, it"s just for Windows Phone 8 products.

The Windows Phone Store website has the details of what"s been added in this new version, including being able to search through your files and folders on your SkyDrive account. The app will also allow users to change the settings to both upload new photo images as well as download them. This should be very helpful for Windows Phone 8 owners who take a lot of pictures and then store them to SkyDrive, which has just 7 GB of free space.

WPCentral.com reports that this new 3.0 version is not yet available for people who own older Windows Phone products, but it"s likely that it will be released for those devices at some point. They also report that the 3.0 version seems to have better performance than earlier version of the SkyDrive app.
