Skype blogs still down a day after defacement by hackers

Microsoft and its Skype team got an unwelcome New Year"s Day present on Wednesday. The group that calls itself the Syrian Electronic Army managed to highjack the official Skype and Facebook accounts for a brief time, along with their blog sites, and proceeded to post up anti-Skype and Microsoft messages.

While Microsoft took control of the Facebook and Twitter accounts later that day, and deleted the messages made by the SEA, the company is still not allowing people to access the official Skype blog sites. Instead of restoring them, Microsoft is redirecting any visits from the blogs.skype.com to the main Skype.com page.

Neowin asked Microsoft to comment on Wednesday"s events and received the following response from a spokesperson:

We recently became aware of a targeted cyber attack that led to access to Skype’s social media properties, but these credentials were quickly reset. No user information was compromised.

Microsoft said they could offer no additional comments when we asked why access to the Skype blogs had not yet been restored, nor did they give us a timetable when those pages will be made public again. The blogs are used by the Skype team to reveal information about app updates along with other stories and information about the VoIP service.
