On Thursday, Microsoft launched a new program called YouthSpark, which is aiming to help hundreds of millions of young people in bettering their education and job prospects. Today, one of Microsoft"s divisions, Skype, announced their own charitble effort and is asking for the public"s help.
In a post on the official Skype blog, it talks about the effort, called Skype For Peace. Skype has been working with the group known as Peace One Day for three years, well before Microsoft acquired the VoIP software maker. Peace One Day"s goal is to promote non-violence around the world.
As part of its new effort with Peace One Day, Skype has started a crowd source-based fund raising effort for the organization"s Peace One Day Global Education Resource, that is aiming to send educational materials to thousands of teachers worldwide. The Skype For Peace page has been set up to take donations from people.
Skype says that it will match any donations made to Skype For Peace, which start at $10, with their own money, up to $100,000. People who donate will receive some extras, including a chance to get a Skype call from Peace One Day founder Jeremy Gilley if they pledge $40 or more. The fund raising efforts will end on November 21st.
