Skype for Web (Beta) is now available worldwide

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced Skype for Web, a version of its communications tool that can be easily accessed by signing in to Skype.com. It followed an earlier announcement detailing upgrades to Skype integration within Outlook.com too, but the new website access allows people to use Skype in their browser without needing an Outlook.com account.

Microsoft rolled out Skype for Web as a beta for all users in the US and UK ten days ago, but today, the company is opening this up further. Skype for Web (Beta) is now available worldwide in these supported languages:

Arabic, Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, English, German, Greek, Spanish, Estonian, Finnish, French, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional.

Microsoft also said today that Chromebook and Linux users can now access Skype for Web (Beta) for instant messaging.

Today"s news follows Microsoft"s recent confirmation that its experimental Skype Translator feature - which can translate from one language to another in near-real-time - will be integrated into the mainstream Skype desktop app from later this year. Meanwhile, the Skype Modern app will be killed off in a favor of a new integrated experience across multiple Universal apps in Windows 10.
