At the end of last month, Microsoft released an update for its Skype app on Windows 10 to Windows Insiders on the Fast ring, adding Fluent Design elements. Now, that"s available to everyone, along with a range of other new features.
As you can see, there"s Acrylic in the recent conversations, which is the blurred transparency effect. The other bit is Reveal, which is when a selection starts to become highlighted when the user hovers the mouse close to it.
The other new features are similar to those that showed up recently in the new Skype desktop application. The Gallery feature is there, which allows you to scroll through media that"s been sent to and from you in a conversation.
There"s also a notification panel, which helps users to keep track of reactions to messages, @-mentions, or when someone has quoted you. Status updates have made a return, and there"s improved search functionality.
In its announcement, Microsoft also reminded everyone about the improvements that came with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. This includes My People, which allows users to pin contacts to the taskbar, and send messages without actually having to open the Skype app.
Skype is also available in Windows Mixed Reality, allowing you to share your Mixed Reality world through a video call, or respond to messages without leaving a game that you"re playing.
To install or update the Skype app on your Windows 10 PC, you can find it on the Microsoft Store here.
