Skype for Windows 8 gets new update

Microsoft has once again updated the Skype app for Windows 8, less than two weeks after it released version 1.6 of the Modern app version of the popular VoIP service. The new update is being issued on the same day that Microsoft begins transitioning its desktop Windows Live Messenger users to Skype.

While the update is indeed available if you manually check via the Windows Store section of Windows 8, the patch notes on the Skype Windows 8 page have not yet been changed, as of this writing. The Skype Garage blog, which normally gives information on what"s contained in new version, has also not been updated. When we get more information on what the updated Windows 8 Skype version contains, we will update this news post.

Version 1.6, which was released late on Friday, March 29th, just before the Easter weekend, added more support to block contacts, along with some performance improvements in terms of loading contacts. It also fixed some unnamed bugs. Skype remains one of the most popular free Windows 8 apps. It has been in the top five list of Microsoft"s most downloaded free apps from the Windows Store since shortly after it was launched.
