Skype for Windows Phone got a fairly significant update last night, and despite not having any major new features, those who regularly use the app will definitely enjoy the improvements. The new version brings the app up to v 2.24 but the update is only for Windows Phone 8.x.
The most evident new feature is the addition of Drawing. Users can now doodle something and send it to their friends directly in the app. You can also draw on top of images or Bing Maps if you need to. Although you don’t have too many options to choose from, this might help in a pinch, if you’re feeling artistic. Currently this is only available on Windows Phone but other platforms will no doubt follow suite.
Secondly, Skype now resumes faster on Windows Phone 8.1. Regular users will no doubt appreciate this, especially as it seems to be a quite noticeable improvement.
Skype for Windows Phone now also supports HD screens so you get to see your conversations and video chats better. And finally there are some sign-in improvements where the app can now automatically sign you in using your Microsoft account. Crucially you can also simply use your Skype account if you simply prefer it like that.
It’s not often that Windows Phone gets features ahead of other platforms so it’s really nice to see Microsoft stepping up its support for its own OS.
