Skype Preview updated for Windows 10 users in the Fast ring - here's what's new

Microsoft updated its Skype Preview app for Windows 10 today, adding a few new features for Windows Insiders on the Fast ring. The update comes alongside a few other app updates, including Groove Music, Movies & TV, and Windows Maps.

There are some new features for messaging; for example, you"ll now be able to drag a file or image into a chat to send it (up to 300MB). You"ll start to see image previews when URLs are sent, and there are unread message indicators in chats.

The new update also has improvements to profiles. You"ll now be able to call someone directly from their profile, as well as add, remove, block, or unblock someone. The user"s initials will show if they don"t have a profile picture, which should sound familiar to most longtime Skype users.

The build also contains new calling features. You"ll be able to head over to Skype settings within the app to set your preferred camera, microphone, and speaker. Calls on Windows phones will now default to loud speaker.

Many of the features in today"s update have long been available in the desktop version of the app, so it"s always nice to see the UWP app coming closer to a parity with its older sibling.

The version number for today"s update is 11.9.239.0. You can find it in the Windows Store here.
