Until now, if you wanted to use your Skype mobile phone app to call someone via Skype Credits, you had to pay for those credits directly to Skype. Today, it was announced that Skype users in Russia now have the option to pay for those credits and have them appear on the user"s monthly phone bill.
The new service was announced today by MACH, which is handling the direct billing system for Skype"s owners at Microsoft. The service will be released for the US and Canada but a launch date was not announced for those countries. The press release stated:
With this new payment option, Skype users can now purchase Skype Credit from their mobile devices through a browser-based transaction that is secure, seamless and convenient. They can pay for this transaction either as part of their monthly cell phone bill or using their mobile carrier’s pre-paid account balance.
Having a way to pay for Skype Credits as part of a regular monthly phone bill could result in even more money spent on Skype Credits as users won"t have to take the time to pay for those credits ahead of time via Skype itself. The press release adds, "This new payment option will reflect the same prices for Skype Credit as current payment methods."
