Skype's not working on the latest iPhones but Microsoft is working on a fix

The release of the newest iPhones may not have been met with as much enthusiasm as we have come to except, partially due to buyers holding out for the release of the iPhone X in November, but Apple still sold a large number of devices since their launch last Friday.

Now, it seems users of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are experiencing issues with the Skype app, with multiple reports of the app crashing on startup. The issue seems to be the result of a bug, possibly resulting from a lack of optimisation for the new devices.

.@Skype Please fix the iPhone 8/8+ bug with your app! I can’t sign in without it crashing. Missing important conversations!

After reports of the problem started cropping up on Twitter, Microsoft issued the following statement acknowledging the problem and promising a fix is in the works:

We are aware of issues where users are unable to connect to Skype on the new iPhone8.

Our engineers are actively investigating the issue and we hope to resolve it as soon as possible.

The page was also updated at 16:09 GMT Saturday to suggest that a fix had been developed and was currently in testing. At the time of writing, though, there are still some Twitter reports of Skype not working for users.
