Skyrim Special Edition is free this weekend on Xbox One [Update]

For those select few who have yet to play Skyrim on one of the numerous platforms it has released on, the game"s remastered Special Edition will be free to play on the Xbox One this weekend. While the original has gone through free promotions in the past, this marks the first time that the popular RPG"s Special Edition will be receiving a free weekend.

Following the original release back in 2011 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition arrived in 2016 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 with all DLC, various graphics enhancements, and even modding capabilities as a first for the console versions.

Any progress and achievements from the free weekend will be carried over to the full game for anyone who decides to purchase it. And commemorating the event, the game will be 50% off from September 7 to September 18, pulling the price down to $30 for the duration.

The free weekend will only be available to Xbox Live Gold members, with it slated to begin on September 7 at 12:01am PDT and ending on September 10 at 11:59pm PDT. This should give ample time to roam the lands of Skyrim, find out what is it like to be the fabled Dragonborn, and hopefully, have enough time to chop up some ancient dragons.
