Earlier today, we asked our readers which apps they"re still waiting to see on Windows phones and PCs. While many big names have been added to the platform over the last couple of years, the "app-gap" problem is still far from resolved for Windows.
It doesn"t help that some major brands are now deserting the OS due to its tiny market share, and now, another popular app has been pulled from Windows Phone, albeit only in the United States.
Skyscanner confirmed today that it has withdrawn its app from the Windows Phone Store, but only in the US. The company issued a statement to Windows Central, explaining:
"We"ve put this change into effect in the U.S.-only. Although we take a mobile-first approach at Skyscanner, we also are very much focused on the local intricacies of each market. In the U.S., our Android and iOS apps are the most popular, with a very small % of users being Windows users. With the global trend being Windows users are more likely to use mobile web, we"re concentrating on this aspect for the U.S. market."
The app is a popular choice among people on the lookout for deals on airline tickets, but with Windows Phone"s market share being particularly low in the US, Skyscanner evidently decided that it wasn"t worth maintaining its availability there.
US Windows Phone users will still be able to access Skyscanner"s mobile site, and the app will continue to be available to those in other parts of the world.
