The last few months have seen exponential growth in the usage of Microsoft Teams. This can be illustrated from the fact that on March 31 alone, the app handled nearly 2.7 billion minutes of calls. While Teams has seen significant growth, on the other half of the horizon, perhaps the app that hasn"t benefited as much compared to the rest of the bunch, is Slack.
With this in mind, Slack has now announced a new collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enable enhanced enterprise workforce collaboration. Most importantly, under the new multi-year agreement, Slack will be migrating its Slack voice and video calls together with screen-sharing capabilities to Amazon Chime, which is AWS’s communications service that lets users meet, chat, and place business calls.
In addition, AWS Key Management Service has also been integrated with the Slack Enterprise Key Management (EKM). By leveraging AWS’ security services, including AWS Key Management Service for distribution and control of cryptographic keys, Slack is aiming to be a viable choice for security-conscious or regulated enterprise customers. This comes at a time when the security and privacy offered by many competitors like Zoom have already raised a few eyebrows.
Furthermore, the AWS Chatbot service has been integrated with Slack as well. It will give developers the ability to collaborate with their teams to manage cloud-based services without leaving Slack. Amazon AppFlow has been integrated with Slack as well, which will allow secure transfer data between Slack and AWS services. In the coming months, AWS and Slack will enhance this capability to allow the transfer of data bi-directionally between multiple Slack channels and AWS services in a single flow.
As part of the collaboration, AWS has agreed to use Slack to simplify the way teams at AWS communicate and work together. Since AWS is already integrated within the infrastructure of many enterprises worldwide, this would lead to an easier shift to Slack as well.
