With the forthcoming release of the Skype Teams public beta in November, Slack could potentially have cause for concern in terms of its market share. However, Slack may hold a valuable edge over its rival after it announced an official partnership with Salesforce which will offer several integrated features.
With "Salesforce for Slack", users will be able to quickly and easily search for opportunities, customers, contacts, or leads from within Slack using the "/salesforce" command. Searches will return three results which can be clicked upon to provide a short summary of the selected record.
There"s also integration with Chatter, Salesforce"s cloud collaboration solution, which will allow comments to be sent between Slack and Chatter to unify conversations between the services. Slack users will be able to use the "/chatter" command to push messages to Chatter while the "/slack" command can be used from within Chatter to push messages into Slack.
The final feature offered as part of this initial release will be the ability to assign a Slack channel to a Salesforce customer record, enabling Salesforce users to keep track of the latest discussion of major deals, customers, or partners that have occurred in Slack.
Integration between the two services will become available "in the next month" at no extra charge, with additional integration between the two platforms on the cards.
Those interested in being notified of the availability of Salesforce for Slack can head over to the Slack Help Center.
