Slack desktop app launches on the Windows Store, with a little help from Project Centennial

Back in November, Microsoft took on Slack with the launch of Teams, a "chat-based workspace" for Office 365. Microsoft was rather dismissive of "little companies" like Slack that "fill a very narrow niche", but Slack certainly appears unfazed by the competition, and is continuing to develop its offering to satisfy its growing customer base.

Indeed, Slack has taken advantage of Microsoft"s tools to make it even easier to download its app and keep it up-to-date on Windows 10 machines. Using Microsoft"s Desktop App Converter - also known as the "Project Centennial" app bridge - Slack has now converted its Win32 desktop application to bring it to the Windows Store.

Windows 10 users can now search for the app and download it from the Store, rather than having to go to Slack"s site and download the installer from there. The app will also be automatically updated, although as MSPoweruser notes, the Slack app did already include an auto-update feature.

But Slack"s new Windows Store status also means that it can now support Live Tiles, which is certainly a nice addition.

Slack also has an app available for Windows 10 Mobile and Windows Phone 8.1 devices, although it has remained in beta for well over a year.
