A few days ago, Nokia launched Smartphonebetatest.com as a teaser for their upcoming marketing campaign for the Lumia 900. Now the teaser is over as Smartphonebetatest.com is now fully operational. The full TV ad blitz has also begun. The site shows the first two ads in a series of spots starring former Saturday Night Live cast member Chris Parnell.
As you can see in the above video, Nokia and Parnell claim that the smartphone beta test we have all had to deal with in the last five years (a not so subtle reference to the launch of the first iPhone in 2007) is now over. The ad tries to convince us that the Lumia 900 is the culmination of this test, thanks in part to Microsoft"s Windows Phone operating system.
The ad is very well produced and is more "Hollywood" than the TV ads run in Europe for the launch of the Lumia 800 last fall. You can see a second ad, which emphasizes the Windows Phone live tiles, below.
The big question: Will the ad campaign work to get people to check out the Lumia 900? The early reviews for the device have mostly leaned on the positive side and the $99.99 price point on AT&T (with a two year contract) is pretty cheap. We should learn if the Nokia Lumia 900 will be a big seller soon after its official launch on Sunday.
