Samsung announced its minimalistic One UI experience late last year as a fresh take on user interaction with phones, bringing simplified screens and more accessible interface elements to its Android smartphones. The company began testing the new UI in November, and some Galaxy S9 users even started receiving the official update as an early Christmas gift.
Now, Samsung has published roadmap detailing its plans to bring One UI, along with the Android Pie update, to many of its existing devices during 2019. The roadmap was posted on the Samsung Members app and spotted by SamMobile. Predictably, it gives priority to the company"s flagships. In January, the Galaxy S9, S9+, and Note9 should all receive the new experience, followed by the Note8 in February. The two-year-old Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be getting it in March, which is likely after the launch of the Galaxy S10.
Despite prioritizing its higher-end phones, Samsung seems to be interested in supporting a ton of devices, including many in the Galaxy A and J series, which are planned to receive the upgrade by July 2019. Even tablets aren"t left out, with the latest Galaxy Tab S4 being due for an update in April, while Tab S3 users will have to wait for August to get theirs.
It"s always good to see companies supporting their devices with major updates some time after their launch, and Samsung seems to be doing that fairly well based on this roadmap. It remains to be seen, of course, how well the company lives up to these promises, but it may give users some hope.
