Snapchat sitting on "hundreds of thousands" of unsold Spectacles

It was a little over a year ago that Snap Inc showed off its first piece of hardware, the Spectacles. While this would generate some buzz, it wouldn"t be until a couple months later that the firm would actually release them, making them available through a solitary vending machine in Southern California.

The following months would be filled with the company traveling the United States and erecting the vending machine at various locations. This is what would make the Spectacles so coveted, this wasn"t a product you could just buy online or walk into a store and purchase, you had to physically spend some time and effort by getting out there and securing them.

Nearly three months after its debut, Spectacles would become available to the masses, being sold through its own website. While the fervor for the item has no doubt chilled, it looks like Snap Inc could be sitting on quite a stockpile of the units in warehouses in China. Despite selling over 150,000 units, there are reports that the company has "hundreds of thousands" more that are sitting in warehouses.

Naturally, this isn"t an ideal scenario for the company, but there is always a chance that the product could regain its moment going into the holiday season.
