Snapchat Spectacles are now available to buy online, priced at $129.99

Last September, social media platform Snapchat unveiled Spectacles, its sunglasses with integrated cameras that can record ten-second video clips with the tap of a button, and connect to its mobile app. Until now, the only way to buy the wearable device was to hope that Snap would bring one of its vending machines to a city near you, or to visit the company"s pop-up store in New York City.

But today, Snap has begun selling the Spectacles via its website in the United States, priced at $129.99.

The specs are available in three color options, and delivery is currently promised within two to four weeks. Buyers can also purchase additional accessories, including a $9.99 Charging Cable, and a $49.99 Charging Case. There is a purchasing limit of six Spectacles per household.

As The Verge notes, the availability of Spectacles online means that Snap has now closed its NYC pop-up store, and the vending machines will be scaled back, but will still occasionally show up in "surprising" places in the future.

Snap has been making a gradual transition to become "a camera company" in recent months, and the Spectacles are believed to be just one step in that process. The firm admitted in its IPO filing earlier this month that the Spectacles have "not generated significant revenue" yet - but wider availability of the devices seems likely to change that.
